Common symptoms
Problems that can be assessed
How the console is approached
- Confirm the exact model and region. Board revisions, power supplies and video standards matter.
- Reproduce the fault safely. Use known-good cables, game media and displays where possible.
- Check the basics at the board. Input voltage, regulated rails, reset and clocks.
- Follow the affected path. Power, video, audio, cartridge or controls based on evidence.
- Retest after repair. Multiple starts, warm running and real gameplay where appropriate.
Recapping is not a diagnosis
Some systems genuinely suffer capacitor failure. Others have dirty connectors, broken traces, bad regulators, damaged ports or failed custom chips. Components are replaced because tests and symptoms support it—not simply because the console is old.
Retro console questions
Which systems can you look at?
Selected Nintendo, Sega, Sony and other classic systems can be assessed. Acceptance depends on the exact model, symptom and parts situation.
Can you install modifications?
Some reversible or well-documented modifications may be considered, but repairs and reliability take priority over unnecessary alterations.
Do you guarantee old plastics will survive?
No one honestly can. Brittle clips and aged plastics are handled carefully, but existing degradation always carries risk.
