Restoration with restraint
What restoration cannot promise
Old plastics can be brittle, discoloured through their full depth or previously treated. Brightening results can be uneven and yellowing may return. Printed markings, labels and textured finishes may also limit safe treatment.
- Photograph condition. Existing scratches, cracks and missing parts are recorded.
- Choose safe methods. Cleaner, temperature and exposure are matched to the material.
- Protect original details. Labels, printing, badges and fragile plastics receive priority.
- Reassemble and test. Cosmetic work should not create a functional fault.
Restoration questions
Do you use peroxide on every yellowed case?
No. The plastic, condition, colour, printing and owner’s expectations must all be considered first.
Can scratches be removed?
Some light marks can be reduced, but aggressive polishing can alter texture and edges. Deep scratches are often better accepted than made worse.
Will you fit reproduction labels?
Only by agreement. Original labels are preserved whenever practical and reproduction parts should not be presented as original.
